Cooking With Mary Jane - a call for recipes

I have been running an ongoing series on here posting various recipes for cooking with marijuana. I am planning on continuing this series, and I have many more recipes to share, however I would like to expand upon this. I am looking for even more, I would like enough recipes to print up in a book, I have a good start to this already, but I am looking for more. What I am asking for is for my readers to submit their recipes to me. You can either post it as a response on here or email me direct at ivxxapparel@gmail.com, I have already have the printing process set, I just need additional content. What I am offering is a 25% discount on the book when it comes out to anyone who provides a recipe that is used in the book upon release of the book.

Of course all my readers will get first crack at purchasing the book before it hits amazon.com or the bookstores.

Cooking With Mary Jane - Peanut Budder Cookies

Its been a while since I posted a recipe, so here goes (reminder, check your local laws before following this recipe as it is possibly illegal and I do not recommend breaking the law):

These soft batch peanut butter cookies are superb, made with cannabutter and bam they pack a punch as well as taste wonderful.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups cannabutter
  • 1 1/2 cups crunchy peanut butter (you can use creamy, but I think crunchy is better)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3 3/4 cups flour or cannaflour for an added punch
  • 12 ounces peanut butter chips (cause you can never have enough peanut butter)
Cream Cannabutter until smooth, add sugar and eggs and mix until smooth. Mix in all remaining ingredients and chill in the fridge for one hour. Preheat oven to 325. Drop one teaspoon for each cookie onto a cookie sheet (do not flatten). Bake for fifteen minutes and remove to cool. Make sure you do not burn the cookies, if they burn the THC content will disappear and you will have hard bricks of charcoal with no potential to get you high.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 9 - Cannaoil

Earlier in the series I showed you how to make cannabutter, one of the bases for making any marijuana based food. Today I will tell you how to make the next most common base, oil. Because of the nature of THC bonding it with high fat substances is the easiest way to ensure a nice high without wasting your stash. There are multiple ways to make cannaoil, but we will focus on the crock pot method since it makes the best oil.

Ingredients:
1 cup of oil
1 cup of finely ground marijuana

Tools:
Crock Pot
Small metal strainer
Large glass measuring cup
1 coffee filter

Place oil and marijuana in the crock pot cook it on low heat for at least 12 hours. The longer you cook it the more THC will be absorbed into the oil and the more potent your oil will be.

Once the mixture is cooked place the metal strainer over the measuring cup and put the coffee filter in the strainer. Pour the mixture slowly into the filter making sure not to overflow it and allow the mixture to strain into the measuring cup. When you are done you should get a clear green oil without any trace of plant material. If the coffee filter rips the strainer should catch the majority of the plant matter, but don’t worry if it doesn’t you can always filter it again with a new coffee filter. You will probably want to use a spoon to press down on the plant matter to squeeze the last of the oil out of the mixture.

This cannaoil can be used on any recipe that calls for oil, but remember it is crucial that the recipe keeps it under 380 degrees Fahrenheit or the THC will just burn off.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 6 - Cannamilk

In part 5 we made Cannacream which can be used in any recipe that calls for milk (if watered down) or cream, however this has to be used immediately and does not keep well. Cannamilk requires no cooking and does not alter the best before date as far as I know.

Ingredients:
• 1 liter of whole milk
• ½ cup of ground bud, hash, and/or shake

Directions:
Pour enough of the milk out to be able to put in the marijuana. Pour the marijuana into the milk, put in the refrigerator and allow to sit for at least 24 hours. Strain out the marijuana and enjoy.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 5 - Cannacream

Cannacream could actually be made with 2% milk for a lower fat version, but since cannabinoids are fat soluble the higher fat content of the milk the more effective the absorption.

Ingredients:
• 1 cup whole milk
• 1 cup light cream
• 1 cup of ground bud, hash, and/or shake

Directions:
Mix all ingredients in a pot and gently simmer (be careful not to over boil) for 20 minutes. Strain mixture through a cheesecloth lined strainer. Add water to thin the cream if you desire a thinner milk. Use immediately.

In Part 6 we will make a Cannamilk which does not require cooking, and lasts a little longer and is better for recipes with milk instead of watering down the cream.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 4 - Cannaflour

A quick and easy method of cooking with marijuana is cannaflour. Cannaflour is simply mixing finely ground marijuana with plain flour. Sieve the cannaflour after mixing to remove any lumps or stalks from the flour and store in an airtight container in the fridge for whenever you want to cook. I cannot attest to the strength of Cannaflour, and I suspect unless the recipe you are using contains a fair amount of fatty substance such as milk, butter, or lard you will not likely get much of a buzz at all, but I think that if you cook with a fair amount of fatty substances it would produce a decent buzz.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 2 - Green Dragon

Green Dragon will mess you up. This is one way to ingest marijuana that is instant gratification you will get stoned and drunk (or as I call it Strunk) right away.

Ingredients:
• A bottle of the strongest alcohol you can stomach (vodka or rum work well)
• ½ gram of ground bud, hash, or shake per oz of alcohol

Directions:
Pour some of the alcohol out (as much as a fourth but no more) in order to make room for the marijuana. Put the ground marijuana in the bottle reseal and shake vigorously. Place in a warm dark spot (behind a furnace is ideal) for 2-3 weeks shaking vigorously every day. Use as you would the alcohol you used to make it, you can mix it or drink it straight.

NOTE: All drinks made with green dragon will not be the colour you expect, green dragon does not retain the original colour of the alcohol so it tints any drink made with it accordingly. So drinks such as at Potequilla sunrise will probably have a greenish and purple haze instead of the bright oranges you would expect.

Cooking With Mary Jane Part 1 - Cannabutter

Cannabutter

Cannabutter is the most common way to use marijuana in cooking. There are a number of ways for making cannabutter, ranging from a simply frying butter and marijuana together and straining the end result to using a double boiler and skimming the product that rises. Cannabutter can be used exactly as butter and in place of butter in any recipe, you can simply spread it on toast and eat it like that or bake it into whatever tasty treat you wish. Below are the two most common and simplest methods of making your own cannabutter.

Method 1 (Frying Pan):
Ingredients:
• 1lb of butter
• 28 -50 grams of ground hash, bud, and/or shake

Directions:
In a large pan melt the butter on a low heat. Once the butter is melted add the ground marijuana and cook for at least 30 minutes stirring frequently and making sure it does not burn. Remove from heat and strain into a container for storage. Refrigerate until hardened and it is ready to use.

Method 2 (Crock Pot)
Ingredients:
• 1lb of butter
• 1 ½ - 2 cups of finely ground hash, bud, and/or shake
• 1 cups of water
• Additional water as required

Directions:
Place butter, marijuana powder, and water into crock-pot. Cook on low for 12 – 16 hours occasionally stirring and adding small amounts of water to cover losses due to evaporation. Turn off heat and allow too cool enough to handle. When mixture is cool enough to handle pour through a double layer cheesecloth lined strainer into a bowl. Hot water may be poured through the strainer to help you get the most amount of butter from the mixture, you can also twist the cheesecloth to force even more butter out of the cloth. Place the bowl in the refrigerator to cool. When the liquids have cooled the butter rises to the top and can be skimmed off. The left over water is useless and can be thrown out.

The reason water is used in this recipe is to keep the boiling temperature down and to increase the volume of liquid so that more marijuana can be used producing a stronger cannabutter than is possible using Method 1.

Cooking With Mary Jane Introduction

Anyone who has heard anything about marijuana has heard of pot (or hash) brownies. In my curiosity about he drug I began to search out recipes for these heavenly morsels only to discover that there is no one recipe and in fact many people don’t actually know how to make them. The most common incorrect way I came across to make pot brownies was to just grind up some pot and add it to the brownies, of course those who tried this recipe did not get much if any buzz off these, and apparently the taste is quite bad. I also discovered that brownies aren’t the only thing you can make, there are a whole variety of dishes that can be made with marijuana, ranging from drinks to deserts and covering every course in between.

The question that begs to be answered is why would anyone want to eat marijuana instead of smoking it? Well that’s simple, marijuana smoke has virtually the same list of harmful chemicals as tobacco smoke, making smoking a joint just about as bad as a cigarette, however ingesting the drug has no proven long term effects. Eating marijuana instead of smoking it means you get the benefits of the drug without the harmful chemicals that goes with it. And yes there are benefits to marijuana; it is one of the best anti-nausea medications, and works as a half decent appetite inducer. So feeling a little queasy, have a brownie.

I decided to start this ongoing series to post various recipes here on my blog. I thought "I bet others are curious as well". Now it should be noted that I have not tried these recipes nor do I recommend using them. In most areas of the world following these recipes would be against the law, check with your local laws before attempting any of the recipes, I do not recommend anyone doing anything that is illegal.

A few things note about cooking with marijuana. The high is different than smoking it is a smoother mellower high. Also ingesting marijuana takes longer to kick in, but lasts longer. I have hear reports of various recipes taking up to half an hour to take effect, so take it slow and don’t over do it.

So enjoy the Cooking With Mary Jane series. I will post the first recipe later today or tomorrow.
