Most Outragious Anit-Marijuana Claim
I have seen some pretty silly arguments countering legalization of marijuana, but this one listed in this article on Is Marijuana Safer Than Alcohol takes the cake. The claim is:
Marijuana has medicinal value:
True, but marijuana cannot be the safest drug for cancer patients and people with AIDS who have a weak immune system as marijuana kills all the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in the body. Modern science now has a drug called Marinol, which mimics marijuana in the system without the side effects of street pot.
The problem with this claim is the statement about marijuana killing all the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in the body. This claim is so out in left field I am not sure how to even begin to show how wrong it is. The author gives no citation where they got the information from, but my guess is they are just pulling this one out of thin air to justify their anti-marijuana stance.
Ok it is fine to point out that using marijuana impairs your judgment and should not be used before operating a vehicle. That is a perfectly legitimate stance, but to say that it strips vitamins and minerals from the body, well I am sure that a study proving, or even hinting at that, would be all over the news.
